A loan helped a construction company providing second chance employment to buy equipment and invest in marketing.

Carol's story

10 years ago as a single mom, I bought my first home. I chose to buy a multi family tri-plex so that I could rent out the other units. In that time I have found that reliable maintenance and construction contractors are very difficult to find. I have also encountered many felons who are unable to find housing even when employed and being positively engaged in the community. I brought these two together as I began renting to people in recovery, working to house people coming out of prison and homelessness. In 2023 I started my construction company and began hiring people in recovery and/or recently released. I am training them to repair and maintain aging and distressed residential buildings. We have gotten more work and more investors who want to rehabilitate distressed housing using our workforce. These social good investors are also renting these homes to the same group of people so there is a full circle benefit as we work together to improve and strengthen our community. I have been able to buy a truck and a trailer and we have had many generous donations of used tools and equipment. It has been so inspiring to see the team grow in confidence and skills as they rebuild their lives and become thriving members of society, all while taking pride in creating safe and affordable housing opportunities for themselves and others.
