A loan helped a family-owned farmers market in Sierra Vista to equip their kitchen and offer fresh food in our community.

Alicia's story

My name is Alicia, I am the owner of Manny’s Farmers Market LLC. I moved to Arizona in 2000 from Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. and never looked back, despite the hot, dry Arizona summers. I have been a part of the Cochise County Juvenile Detention Educational Program since the Feb 2019 school year, the program is CTE specialist in Marketing and Entrepreneur program that supports youth adults in transition to re-entry society. My husband, Solomon and I live in Sierra Vista, Arizona with our 5 daughters, son Ignacio and our dog Maggie. We started our import and export business in 2016, and we are very grateful for the opportunities to connect with so many businesses across the state in this industry. I enjoy having my own import and export business, we have had our products in more than 600 points of sale across our state.

In 2000, I graduated from Institute of Superior Studies Technologic de Monterrey, University with a Bachelor of International Business in Business Administration with minor in Import-Export. I studied my minor in Management access post-Bac in Burgundy Business University Campus Dijon, France. After graduating I moved in Sierra Vista, Arizona. I started importing products from Sinaloa, and Sonora. My true passion is to help business owners to export their products in the USA, I have worked with many organization consulting and supporting small businesses all around connecting them with brokers.

I have a vision in my heart to use my passion for food and my business to help my fellow small business owners. In our space we can host a farmers' market for our county, because not only it will addresses the pressing need for fresh food but also will provide an avenue for local producers to showcase their products and thrive. By incorporating Hispanic products and cuisine, we're not only catering to the cultural diversity of our community but also introducing new flavors and options for everyone to enjoy. It’s a win win in my heart.

Starting with a tortilleria, panaderia, fresh produce, and cocina economica is our fantastic idea. These offerings cover a wide range of essential food items and meal options, ensuring that the market appeals to a broad audience. Additionally, providing lunch and dinner combos adds convenience for busy individuals and families while showcasing the culinary diversity of Hispanic cuisine. We will fill our displays with imported Mexican products from across the border, products made by local friends around the county, fresh food will be made by myself and women around our community as well. Since our space is very big, we will fill the walls with art display by local artists from around our community. I am very excited to be able to offer a platform for all my friends to utilize as well, we are planning to have at least 10 concession spots in addition to our food and product offerings.
