A loan helped me expand my banh mi business’s team, menu, and marketing.

Tram's story

Growing up in Vietnam, I was surrounded by fresh street food: from rolling grill carts, baskets of cut mangoes and guavas, to, most importantly, banh mi. My aunt had a banh mi stand in the bustling city of Saigon, where I was lucky enough to work. All the ingredients that we used were fresh and the dishes we made with care, for instance, our rich green cilantro coming straight from the countryside and our chả pork loaf getting steamed every morning. Coming to America, I missed these flavorful ingredients from home, so I opened my small business, Nom Nom Banh Mi, with my husband Alan in Berkeley, California. Inspired by my experience working at my aunt’s banh mi stand and Berkeley’s farm-to-table culture, I believe in sourcing my meat from local ranches and produce straight from fields less than two hours away. Nom Nom Banh Mi strives to bring the flavors and tastes of Vietnam to our customers through our delicious banh mi.
