A loan helped a women-owned skate shop expand and purchase new wheels!

Lisa's story

I started skating when I was 14 after watching X-games on tv and am still riding today. I was intrigued by the professionals and how easily they were performing their tricks and I wanted to try. At the time, there were only a few girls riding and it made me push even farther to gain respect in a male-dominated sport.

I went to college to study business finance and wanted to make my hobby into a business, so I opened a skate shop in West Allis. When I was younger, I never had a skate shop where I could hang out and I wanted to create that for myself and all the other skaters. I found a storefront that was available, and I threw myself out there with only $2,000 to start off. Through hard dedication and loyal customers, I’ve been in business for six years strong! I grew up in West Allis and went to school here so it means a lot to open and expand my business in the city I grew up in.
