A loan helped buy supplies for my beauty salon business.

Pamela Nyakerario's story

I am 39 years old. I come from Kisii district. I dropped out of school in form 2. I am an orphan and also a widow. My mum used to sell Irish potatoes at the market and my husband worked in the Jua Kali sector as a mechanic. By the time my husband died in 2006 I had started operating a salon. After his death my in-laws took everything from me and I started from scratch.
This business has enabled me to educate my children despite the challenges. I also take care of an orphan (my sister’s child). My dream for the future is that I plan to build rental houses in order to get more income. I have done this business for 20 yrs, I used to braid from childhood. I have never gone for a salon course but I frequently attend seminars and workshops. I give excellent services to my clients because I do it on my own, so my work advertises itself.
