A loan helped a member to buy stock of yam tubers for food production and sale.

Bobgu Nye Yaa - Limam Fong Group's story

Zenabu is 46, married, and has six children. She lives in Karaga in the Northern region of Ghana. Zenabu is the woman seated at the middle with a tuber of yam in the hand to showcase her business. Zenabu is a member of a group called Bobgu Nye Yaa, which means strength lies in numbers. She has been engaged in trading yam at the local market for seven years now.

Zenabu dreams of growing her business to become a major supplier to meet the all-year-round demand of her community. She is working toward achieving this dream through a loan request from Grameen Ghana to support her business. Zenabu and her group have therefore asked for a loan of GHC 6,700. Her share of the loan is GHC 200 which would be used to buy stock of yam tubers for food production and sale.

Zenabu wants to get a good income from her trade to support her family with the basic needs such as food and clothing. She knows she is in business because of the Grameen Ghana and Kiva partnership, so she thanks lenders for the support. Zenabu also wishes her lenders a prosperous year ahead.
