Kyambadde A. is 32 years of age; she is married with 8 children. She owns a house with 5 rooms and that is where she lives with her family. She does not have water in her home, neither does she have electricity. She has to fetch water from a nearby spring. She has three meals a day and her greatest expense in a month is feeding her children.
Kyambadde A. sells charcoal from her home and she works seven days a week. She receives about 30 customers a day; she sells her charcoal both retail and wholesale. She has done this business for 10 years now.
The challenges she faces in this business are that since she has to collect the charcoal from the villages, the distances are very far and when it rains it is very difficult to access the village roads because most times they become impassable.
She has worked with MCDT for eight years and the reason why she chose to work with MCDT is because she needed some capital for her business. She wants to use this loan to invest in her business and her aspiration is to start up a retail shop.
