A loan helped to stock more essentials for her shop to increase her sales,.

Sarah's story

Sarah is 39 years old, and lives in the town of Lyantonde in the Mbarara region of Uganda. She is married and has three children, with two of them currently in school. For the past seven years, Sarah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar, cooking oil and other items.

To help expand her business, Sarah has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more essentials for the shop, which will increase her sales, and will help Sarah to generate greater profits. Increased sales will help her send her kids to study in better schools. Sarah hopes that in the future she will be able to have a better life with her kids.

Sarah is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Sarah who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
