A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Gladys's Group's story

"Pictured above is Gladys, often described as an extremely hardworking individual. She is 61 years old, and as a group leader, she is representing her group of 14 farmers in Butere District, Kenya. She is married and has 3 children.

Gladys is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again as this means that she is able to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Gladys says that she is happy to have made that decision because since she first joined in 2013, she has had more profits from each harvest, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Gladys will use the profits from this season to buy more land to cultivate in.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 8.25 acres. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 14 solar lights."

In this group: Gladys, Lucia, Alima, Eunice, Julius, Emily O, Angelina, Esta, Margret, Philis, Saina, Denis, Patrick, Mactilida
