A loan helped to invest in a 16 m3 Sistema Biobolsa biodigester.

Juan Pablo's story

Juan Pablo is a Mexican farmer who owns cows and sheep and cultivates corn on a field close to his house. He was very enthusiastic about the idea of taking advantage of his animals' manure to produce biogas and organic fertilizer, as it will allow him to displace the expensive and fossil fuel-based LP gas and chemical fertilizers he used to buy. With his biodigester, he will be able to treat the waste and transform it into productive resources, instead of considering it as waste and piling it up outside the farm, where it was contaminating underground water sources and emitting greenhouse gases. He will cook and heat water with biogas, while applying the nutrient-rich fertilizer on his corn field will nourish the soils and increase the crops' yield in a natural way. His overall quality of life will improve, as the manure will no longer attract flies or generate bad smells. He will have more money available to buy additional cows and improve the infrastructure on his farm.
This loan represents 20% of the total cost of the biodigester, the remaining part being covered by a government subsidy.
