A loan helped a member to purchase grocery items in large quantities from wholesale shops.

Maa Mangala Shg Group's story

Basanti, the lady seated with her hand raised, is a 40-year-old widowed woman. She has four children who go to school. She runs a grocery store selling assorted items. She wants this loan to purchase goods in large quantities from wholesale shops in Nayagarh market to attract more customers in her village. Basanti is involved in business to alleviate the poverty levels in her family and to be economically empowered.

Basanti works from home and has been operating her business for nine years. She plans to expand her grocery store into a wholesale shop and to buy a secondhand vehicle for her family when she generates enough profits. Since she started accessing loans, she has seen herself making more profits. She hopes the training in business management (short-term training for small businesses) she received from People’s Forum will help her achieve her goals. As a woman, she is self-reliant, and she has managed to buy good clothes for her children.

Other members of this Maa Mangala Self-Help Group are engaged in different activities such as vegetable selling, flower and fruit selling, etc. All are happy with this loan.
