A loan helped to obtain a water pump for irrigation.

Juliet's story

Juliet is 39 years old and is a farmer from Chibombo District, Zambia. She is asking for a loan to obtain a water pump that will help her irrigate and expand her vegetable crops.

Like many rural farmers in Zambia, Juliet currently uses buckets to draw water from a nearby river to irrigate her vegetable crops. This is an extremely tiring task, especially now that the dry season is starting. Last season, Juliet grew tomatoes, butternut squash and watermelons, which she sold at a large market in Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka. With the profits, she managed to purchase two cows and paid for her children’s school fees. She is hoping that a water pump will enable her to cultivate an even larger portion of land, and in turn bring in more profits.

Rent to Own has worked with Juliet to create a business plan for this year’s gardening season and will deliver a water pump directly to her farm. Rent to Own will also provide her with training on how to properly use and maintain the water pump, and will provide on-going support until she has completed her loan.

Juliet is confident that with a water pump her farm will continue to grow and support her family.
