Merlys is 27 years old and lives in a municipality in the city of Barranquilla with her nine-month-old son. Merlys has a business business offering video game outlets and selling drinks and sweets. Merlys opened this business one year ago when she was unemployed. She took advantage of her mother's experience in this same work in order to fill a need in the community. With her own savings, Merlys invested in the business and is enthusiastic to expand it. Merlys' dreams are to have her own premises and to increase her young son's quality of life. Merlys' biggest challenge, however, is to earn the necessary income in order to achieve these goals. Merlys is currently applying for a Kiva loan via the "Fundación Mario Santo Domingo". She will use this loan to buy a printer. This will allow her to give her business a better image, and offer a new service. Merlys will buy equipment, tools and supplies on credit.
