Gideon, a 45-year-old man, is married with four children. He lives in Kyenjojo, Uganda. He has been growing bananas for 15 years in rural areas of Kyenjojo. He obtains additional income from growing maize and Irish potatoes. He is faced with the hardship of lack of enough capital to buy manure and fertilizers to expand his banana plantation farm to a large-scale one for increased profits.

Gideon is a member of an agricultural village group. The members guarantee one another instead of pledging security. He is requesting a loan to pay for labour for the banana plantation.
