A loan helped a member purchase automotive parts for resale.

Rayito De Luna Group's story

The community bank "Rayito de Luna" (Little Ray of Moonlight) is starting its fifth term in Pro Mujer as part of the regional hub of Collpani. It is comprised of nine members, and is run by a board of directors and the president, Mrs. Carla. The members run a wide variety of businesses, including the sale of chuño (an artisanal freeze-dried potato typical to Bolivia), sewing of traditional clothing, sales of clothing, fruit, and food, creation of stuffed animals, and the sale of quilts.

This loan will benefit all of the small business owners of the group, including Carla. She joined Pro Mujer six years ago at the invitation of a friend who was also a member of the institution. Her current business is selling automotive parts. She told us that she learned this work several years ago from her parents. She and her husband are both involved in this line of work, and after acquiring a small amount of capital, they decided to launch their own business.

Carla will use this loan to expand her capital through the purchase of spare parts for automobiles, which she will acquire from the Chilean-Bolivian border and later sell in their sales location. This work allows her to generate enough income to provide for her household. She lives with her partner and has one son.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she said she likes the health- and credit-related training she receives.

(Note: One woman is not present in the picture because she had to be at her work.)
