Nunnom Lom Group's story

Talented and outstanding Nengneilhing, alias Boicy, is the featured borrower member for Nunnom lom Group. Nengneilhing is pictured with her hand raised in the picture. She and the other nine members joined hands and formed the group to support and enable themselves to sustain and generate incomes for their family. They live in a village 40 kms away from the town of Manipur, which is also one of the northeastern states in India.

Since Nengneilhing's husband serves as clergyman in the church on a voluntary basis, income generated for the family is not sufficient at all. Nengneilhing runs a grocery shop in the village. The shop is located in front of the village school, which is also the main pathway for the villagers. She sells all essential commodities like cereals, rice, edible oils, sweets and candies. Most of the buyers are village farmers, and their usual time to shop is during morning and evening. At day time, she is least busy, so she also sews and makes an extra income.

With the Kiva loan, she will purchase stocks for the shop. Most of her customers rely on the shop as they purchase the supplies on credit and usually pay it back at the end of the month. She said that she will expand the shop once she avails the loan and will repay the loan on time. She thanked Kiva and WSDS for lessening her burden and building a relationship with them. She says, "Thank you so much."

The rest of the members are engaged in piggery, paan-dukan and ginger farming.
