A loan helped to purchase a vacuum and cleaning supplies.

Virginia's story

Two years ago, Virginia went to work as a janitor, working for someone else. As time passed, the owner decided to hand the business over to Virginia. She accepted and changed its name to Vicky’s Cleaning.

As the current owner, Virginia saw an opportunity to employ her family when she receives larger contracts at commercial or residential sites too large to handle alone. In the future, she plans to employ more workers whenever she can.

Before Virginia could accept contracts in larger offices and homes, she needed to purchase more equipment including a vacuum and cleaning supplies. Virginia says she was fortunate that the previous business owner left her with a couple of items to complete jobs, but to tackle larger projects, she needed to update and expand her equipment.

A visit to the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce placed Virginia on the path to Accion Texas Inc., a nonprofit microlender with America’s largest microloan portfolio. She applied and was approved. Without the loan, Virginia says she would not be able to grow her newly-obtained business.
