The five members of the Djiguissème II group are married men. On average, they are 42 years old and have four children. They all live in traditional families in Foh, one of the villages in Sikasso (the 3rd administrative region of Mali).
They work with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to maintain their farming activities over the rainy season. This is their sixth loan with the institution and all their previous loans have been repaid in full.
The crop cultivated is maize. N’golo, who is pictured standing second from the left, is planning to use his loan to buy farm inputs and seeds, and pay the labour costs to maintain two hectares. After harvest, the produce is sold in the village and at the Sikasso market to both men and women customers.
N’golo is hoping to make an average of 300,000 CFA francs per campaign. This money will help him pay off the loan and support his large family with day-to-day expenses.
