Maku's Group's story

Maku is a 53-year-old widow and a mother of four grown children. She makes a living in the sale of tomatoes, onions, coconuts and charcoal. However, Maku lacks enough capital to buy large quantities of vegetables to meet her customers' demand.

She is joining the KOMAZA microforestry program because, "The trees KOMAZA is planting with farmers grow fast and will enable the farmers to get money when they mature".

With the profits from her tree farm, Maku plans to educate her grandchildren and use the coppices (which grow from the stumps of the harvested trees) as building material.

In this group: Maku, Mungoma, Sada, Macdonald
