Jumwa's Group's story

Jumwa is a 45-year-old widow and mother of five children. To care for her family, she digs on neighbors' farms for wages, and she borrows money from a friend to buy flour for making maandazi (donuts), which she then sells to her neighbors. One of the challenges that she faces in her work is that her maandazi business is so small that she makes very little profit from it.

She is excited to join the KOMAZA microforestry program, because of the cooperation and communal nature of the planting and weeding. She plans to use the income from her KOMAZA trees to pay school fees and to increase her business.

In this group: Jumwa, Sidi, Kahunda
