Adwoa's story

Adwoa is a Ghanaian artisan who specializes in hand-carved African masks and sculptures, as well as in kente cloths. She would like to invest in the purchase of wood, polish, sandpaper and wood stain for production.

Adwoa has been selling through NOVICA since 2000. This is her story:

"I became involved in handicrafts through my mother, who sold Adinkra symbols and kente cloths. While helping my mother, I began to offer a small number of woodcarvings, which sold very well in the market. This inspired me to pursue woodcarving as a career. After a period of careful instruction, I opened up my own workshop, under the banner, 'God moves in mysterious ways.' Currently I have a team of fifteen artisans in my workshop.

"I am very thankful to the people who are contributing to this microcredit to assist me with my small business."
