A loan helped to buy more pork, flour, and oil in bulk for her meat pies.

Shallot's story

Shallot A. is 39 years old. She is a widow and the mother of 3 children. She lost her husband through a motor accident 6 years ago. She works harder than ever since her responsibility increased as a single parent. She sells pork and meat pies in Obuasi Market. Pork is used to prepare all kinds of local dishes like fufu, banku, and palava sauce. It is one of the most popular meats enjoyed by many Ghanaian traditional homes. She buys in bulk and retails to her customers at a profit. She wants to use the loan to buy more pork, flour, and oil in bulk for her meat pies. She believes this will provide her with adequate income to finance her children’s education. She belongs to the community group called Nyame Bekyere (meaning "God will provide") Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee for one another as a form of social collateral to access loans and provide peer pressure to repay the loans.
