A loan helped to buy groceries, meat products, and convenience store items.

Pedro De Jesus's story

Pedro, 45 years old, is a married man who lives in the city of Cartagena with his partner and his three children, who are 5 to 14 years old. There he sells snacks, groceries, soft drinks, and all the household staple goods in a small shop located in his house. His main customers are housewives who congregate daily to do their routine shopping for food that they will prepare for their families. He started his business in 2009 based on what he learned from his family, who always had a shop. Thus, when he formed his household, he took advantage of his experience to generate independent income and move the household ahead. Currently he is applying for a Kiva loan, his first financing with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With it, he will buy groceries, meat products, and convenience store items in greater volume in order to obtain new discounts and pass it on in his prices, since he needs to be very competitive to sustain himself in the market. This is what makes Kiva's investment successful, in addition to his capacity for work and his willingness to apply his resources to the business and generate income that will shape the well-being of his household.
