A loan helped to buy more fish and also to pay the school fees for her children.

Mejumaa's story

Mejumaa is a resident of Tiribe on the south coast of Kenya. She has been selling fish at a busy market for the last two years. She is married and has six children: four boys and two girls.

Mejumaa has requested a loan of 35,000 KES from Kiva partner Yehu to buy more fish and also to pay the school fees for her children. She is optimistic she will have enough income to educate her children.

Mejumaa says that seasonality and price fluctuations in the local markets remain the major challenges she faces. She lives in her own house that has neither electricity nor piped water.
