A loan helped a member to buy cosmetics.

Despertar (Cuenca) Group's story

The Despertar communal bank is made up of 10 women and one man who work in different activities. These allow them to pay for their household expenses and get their families ahead. They are friendly, kind people who still maintain the culture and traditions of their people. They live in different areas in the city of Cuenca, a city bathes by 4 rivers. Its great beauty and nature make this city charming and the variety of its cuisine captivates its own people and visitors. Its people are kind and warmhearted.

One of the members of this group is Janneth. She is 32 years old and is in a common law marriage. She has 2 children, aged 11 and 2. Her oldest goes to a local school. Her husband is a driver and works as a crane operator. They don't own their own home and are renters.

Janneth sells cosmetics. She has been doing this for 13 years. She works Sunday to Sunday with no set schedule. She really likes the work, since it gives her a chance to stay at home and take care of her family.

Janneth is re-entering the communal bank and she is going to invest the new loan in buying cosmetics to increase her merchandise. Her dream is to own her own home.

The small photo is of one of the members who due to work couldn't be present when the group photo was taken.
