Ana, 39, is a single mother. She was born in Jipijapa but currently lives in Guayaquil. She left her native city 12 years ago, bought a house in the periurban zone called Paraíso de la Flor and she has a 16 year old son attending public school. She tells us that when she went to live in Guayaquil it was a little difficult to adapt but now she likes the city very much so she does not plan to return to Jipijapa.
She started her business before she relocated with one sewing machine an aunt who helped her gave her. Ana tells us that this type of business does not have a fixed work schedule but it does have its benefits because it allows her to be at home. She does not have any helpers although her son helps when she has large orders to fill and can’t do it all herself.
She comments that she does worry about crime because her neighborhood is a bit unsafe and does not have police presence. She can’t complain though; she does well in her business and that’s proven by her now having three sewing machines.
She will use the loan to buy an industrial sewing machine and fabric because the school term brings demand. Her next goal is to make some improvements to her house.
