A loan helped to buy more traditional clothing.

Ana Carolina's story

Ana is 38 years old, single, and lives with her parents. She has a 6th Grade education and could not continue because she has 12 siblings. She opened a variety store nine years ago in a rented space. She also makes scarves, bags, purses, and crochet decor. She sells by custom order.

Ana requested her first loan, which she will use to expand her businesses and buy traditional clothing. Ana will use part of her income to continue to construct her very own home in the community where she lives in the department/state of Sacatepequez.

Ana just enrolled in the Friendship Bridge “Bridge to Success” program. She will learn how to operate her businesses more efficiently, gain self-confidence, and focus. A facilitator will meet with her either online or in person every 15 days. Together, Ana and the facilitator will identify goals and create an action plan. She hopes to achieve these goals by the end of the loan cycle, which is usually from four to six months. Goals are self-sufficiency and the ability to take her businesses to the next level. Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are helping women like Ana create pathways toward more successful futures.

This loan is special because:

It empowers women to build successful businesses and become leaders in their community.
