A loan helped a member to buy lotions, creams and footwear wholesale.

Mujeres De Fe De Arboleda Group's story

Many of Friendship Bridge's clients seek businesses with high customer demand in order to generate income. This is the case for Sheily, who is twenty-four years old, married, and has a three-year-old son. Sheily only completed eighth grade, as she was unable to continue her education due to financial reasons.

Three years ago, she began selling products through catalogs, as well as reselling traditional handbags that she sells door to door and on request. Sheily says that her business has been successful due to the quality of her products.

Sheily wants to stock up on products to meet new demand. She is requesting a loan to buy lotions, body creams, and to start selling shoes and dresses. Because she has seen an increase in demand for these products, she wants to take advantage of this opportunity to generate more income. Sheily wants to have her own storefront to offer her products.

In the Friendship Bridge Community Bank called “Mujeres De Fe De Arboleda” (Women of Faith of Arboleda), there are seven women who live in the department of Quetzaltenango. They want to invest the capital in businesses selling tortillas, convenience stores, catalog products, and traditional bags. During educational training sessions, they learn about business practices, preventive health, hygiene, nutrition, women, and family. This is part of Friendship Bridge's “Microcredit Plus” loan, education, and health services program.
