For Rigoberta, perseverance and hard work have been the foundation of every achievement in her life. She is a fifty-year-old woman living in the department/state of Huehuetenango. She is married and the mother of seven children, ranging in age from nine to thirty-two. Although they only completed an average of four years of education, three of them are now married and have given her the joy of becoming a grandmother of nine. Rigoberta did not have the opportunity to study. Her husband works in agriculture, and together they have worked hard to get ahead.
Fifteen years ago, Rigoberta started a convenience store, and with a vision for growth, she opened a hardware store three years ago. Both businesses operate in their own premises, and with the support of two of her children, it is easier to serve customers.
Wanting to keep the store stocked, Rigoberta is applying for her first Kiva loan to purchase more basic food products and beverages in bulk. Her goal is to continue increasing her assortment and better meet customer demand.
Friendship Bridge's "Bridge to Success" program is designed to empower determined women, like Rigoberta, to reach new levels of success. Every two weeks, she receives business training from a Business Developer on topics such as planning, budgeting, saving, and customer service.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for supporting entrepreneurial women in Guatemala!
