A loan helped to buy more clothes and remodel her store.

Leonza's story

Fifty-one-year-old Leonza shares that she grew up during a time when girls were told by their parents that girls “didn’t have the right to study” and go to school. Her parents only sent her to school for three years. She married a security guard, and they have six children who now range in age from 22 to 35. Three of them have a 9th-grade education, and three graduated from high school. There are two grandchildren in the family. Leonza was proud to share that she went to adult school and finished the sixth grade.

Leonza opened a variety store where she sells clothing, as well as catalog products in her own store in a community in the department/state of Sacatepequez. Her goal is to increase the size of the store to meet the increased demands of her customers.

She participated in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and healthcare. However, Leonza decided she needed more specialized business training and joined the “Bridge to Success” program. She is happy to meet with a Facilitator in person or online who helps her identify goals and create an action plan to achieve them. She eagerly learns about effective business management practices and appreciates the targeted training she receives every two weeks from the Facilitator.
