A loan helped to buy fabric, thread, and decorations for beautiful traditional blouses.

Lesly Maria Isabel's story

Lesly is a 22-year-old Maya K’iche mother of two children who are two and five years old. She attended school for nine years and then got married. Her husband is a weaver of traditional skirts called “cortes.”

Six years ago, she started her livestock business raising pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens. She sells them from her home in the department/state of Totonicapan. Two years ago, Lesly opened her traditional textile business, sewing blouses/”huipiles” and aprons/”delantales.”

She sells from her home and can deliver 10 every 15 days. Her goals are to expand the businesses and earn more income. She requests her first Kiva loan to buy fabric, thread, and decorations for her beautiful “huipiles.”

Participating in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, and healthcare) was quite useful for Lesly. She decided to obtain more specialized training and joined the “Bridge to Success” program.

Every 15 days, she meets with a facilitator, who helps her identify her goals and then formulate plans on how to achieve them best. This targeted training will be quite helpful for Lesly as she learns about budgeting, accounting, keeping inventory, prioritizing expenses, and more.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kind assistance! Lesly is determined and motivated to move ahead and create a better life for herself and her family. She appreciates your support!
