Women have become the backbone of the rural economy and, in recent decades, have expanded their participation in various businesses. As a result, they obtain financial resources to cover their families' basic needs.
For Alba, 43, it has been vital to maintain these businesses for 19 years, such as food preparation and sales, jewelry sales, catalog products, and butchered chicken. She employs a worker who supports her for the production of her businesses. She believes it is very important to instill in her family the importance of having diverse income-generating options.
Alba completed six years of education. She is the mother of a seven-year-old son who attends first grade. Currently, her business is growing, so Alba is applying for a Kiva loan to purchase chickens to start a new business, as well as new ingredients to implement new foods and beverages for the food business.
Alba lives in the department/state of San Marcos and recently joined Friendship Bridge's Puente al Suceso program. This program will allow Alba to develop both her business and her personal development. In addition to the individual loan, this program offers one-on-one business assistance to Guatemalan women. This will be of great benefit to her and the future of her business.
Thank you for trusting the women of Guatemala.
