Sylvester Ibrahim's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is pleased to present to you this group of teachers from Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital city. Their school is staffed with nine able teachers and has an enrollment of 496 pupils. This school has been doing well in national examinations, sports, quiz and debating competitions.

These hard-working and dedicated teachers have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to seek a loan of SLL 4,800,000. With the help of this loan, these teachers can embark on some meaningful project that their mere salaries alone cannot do. Some of them will use the loan to buy pieces of furniture, others to buy house-building materials; some buy a piece of land or pay school fees for their children, while some of them will invest the loan in business.

Sylvester is the leader of this group of teachers. Born in the village of Yoni, northern Sierra Leone, Sylvester is today residing in Freetown together with his wife and five children. His wife is a businesswoman and his children are attending school. Sylvester, who has served in the teaching profession for many years now, will use his share of this loan to make improvements in a plot of land he has earlier on bought for the future construction of a family house.

In this group: Sylvester Ibrahim, Molai M. , Aminata B., Yusif , Alhaji E.
