A loan helped a member to buy more casual clothes, more animals and food to feed them.

El Duraznal Group's story

Thirty-two-year-old Cricy, mother of six children ranging in age from two to fifteen, had six years of formal education. She is married to a bricklayer. The family lives in the department/state of San Marcos. Fifteen years ago, she began raising chickens and pigs that she sells from her home.

Seven years ago, she added another business selling casual clothing. Cricy has one employee who helps her with her businesses. She and her husband set aside funds for the continuing education of three of their children, who are in elementary school. Cricy requests a Kiva loan to buy more casual clothing, as well as animals and feed for them.

Seven Maya Mam women elected Cricy to be Secretary of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, “El Duraznal” or “Peach Tree”. These women work at their businesses raising livestock, selling clothing, managing their convenience stores, or car window tinting businesses. They benefit greatly from monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. Recent topics for the training have been about business administration and how to be an effective entrepreneur. Other topics are about health, hygiene, nutrition, self-esteem, and the dangers of over-indebtedness.

Thank you, KIva lenders, for your kindness in funding these much-needed loans! Cricy and her friends are forging ahead and creating pathways toward more successful futures!
