Shirley Michelle and her family live in Picoazá, known for its commerce, religious festivals, and as a producer of vegetables, legumes, and tropical fruits. It is the main center of informal commerce in Manabí.
Shirley Michelle studies architecture at a university in the city. To support her studies and help her parents with household expenses, she sells clothes, which she offers to her classmates and neighbors. She gives her clients credit and collects payments every eight days.
She also posts her merchandise on social media and WhatsApp, and delivers orders to homes.
