A loan helped a member to buy a sewing machine and fabric wholesale.

Guadalupe Rancho Group's story

Twenty-eight-year-old Angelica, a mother of two children who are 29 months and four years of age, is married to a tailor. She had six years of formal education and could not continue because her parents were poor.

Seven years ago, she started sewing pants, and sweatshirts that she sells by custom order. She can deliver six-hundred fifty pieces of clothing each week! Her husband, son and an employee help her.

She requests her third Kiva loan to purchase a sewing machine and fabric at the wholesale level. Her goals are to expand the business, hire more employees and open her own storefront.

Angelica joined six other women who live in the department/state of Totonicapan, and formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Guadalupe Rancho”. They are happy to participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, a monthly educational training (health, women, family, business), and bi-monthly healthcare services (consults, exams, family planning). Recent topics for the training have been about women’s health, care for the environment and wise business administration practices. Every two months, a visiting nurse, who is sensitive to their needs, is available to meet with each woman and offer exams, consults and family planning.

Kiva lenders, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are hugely appreciated by Angelica and her friends. Thank you to each of you!
