Hawa's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 40-year-old Hawa from Port Loko Branch. She is a married businesswoman with three children between the ages of 15 and 20. All are currently attending school. She started this business to take care of her family.

Hawa runs a retail business and sells fast food to her customers around the community. She has been in this business for the past 20 years. Hawa says that her challenge is the increase in prices of goods in the market.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more foodstuffs like cooking items onions, palm oil, peppers, etc. to increase her business. Hawa says that the extra income from this loan will help to take care of her family.

In the future she would like to expand to a larger scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
