A loan helped to buy matoke (green plantains), posho (maize flour), rice, beans, and meat.

Tendo's story

Tendo is 47 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has three school-going children.

For the past 10 years, Tendo has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which provides a variety of food choices. To help expand her business, she has requested a loan of 1,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda to buy matoke (green plantains), posho (maize flour), rice, beans, meat, peanut butter, onions, tomatoes, and spices. This will help her generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food. Tendo hopes that, in the future, she will be able to own an additional business.

Tendo is a member of BRAC's Microfinance (MF) program. The program primarily serves members, like Tendo, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
