A loan helped to buy more charcoal and rice to sell.

Alice's story

This is 40-year-old Alice, from Liberia. She is a widow with 5 children who are currently in school and live at home. Alice is a hardworking businesswoman who sells charcoal and rice. Eight years ago her sales started operating. She learned how to sell from her sister, and she also got her start-up capital from her sister. She sells Monday through Saturday and uses a car to transport supplies to her business site.

Alice applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner, to buy more charcoal and rice to sell to her good clients.

She likes her business because it educates her children. She wants to own a shop in the future. Alice is highly grateful for the financial support BRAC and Kiva have rendered.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
