A loan helped a minority owned paint/dry wall business hire staff, buy equipment, and expand marketing.

Terry's story

As a child I watched my father build a house by himself. It was actually a store named Terry's Sweet Shop in Ferriday, Louisiana. I worked there every day after school. That experience set the tone for my life. It showed me what I needed to do to be successful. If you build it, they will come. From that time forward, my father inspired me to dream of owning my own business.

I put my dream on hold for quite a few years because I was making good money in the petrochemical industry. I moved to Houston in 1992, and I was finally able to start making my dream happen in 2017 when I started CLI Energy and Construction, LLC. I worked hard to establish my business and earn all the certifications I needed to work residentially and commercially on all types of projects.

When Covid hit, I had seven employees and my once booming business came to a halt. Projects were paused, and people were afraid to bring workers into their homes and businesses. I did everything I could and tried to work with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), but after a few months, I had to shrink the business and disband all my workers.

I went back to working a regular job, but I never gave up my dream. Post-pandemic, I have been working with some very helpful mentors, have re-formalized my business and am now ready to scale back up doing the work I love to do.

This loan is special because:
