A loan helped to buy two industrial sewing machines, fabric and thread.

Coraima Oliveth's story

Thirty-year-old Coraima, a mother of two children who are ten and thirteen years old, shares that she only had a sixth-grade education. Her children are in the fifth and seventh grade. Coraima understood that she needed more education, so as an adult, she returned to school on weekends to study.

She is married to a bricklayer. Seven years ago, she started sewing bed sheets, blankets, and bed clothing by custom order. She also opened a business sewing elegant party clothing, as well as school and church uniforms. Coraima shares that she appreciated her sewing classes that she took several years ago, where she learned how to make patterns. She delivers twenty school uniforms and one party dress each month. She has one employee and, when necessary, can employ more people from her community in the department/state of San Marcos.

Her goals are to enlarge the business, employ more people and open an academy where she can teach people how to sew! Coraima requests her first Kiva loan to buy two industrial sewing machines, fabric and thread.

Coraima was a member of a Friendship Bridge Trust Bank and decided she needed extra training and joined the “Bridge to Success” program. A Facilitator helps her create an action plan, setting goals that she will strive to attain at the end of her loan cycle. She will learn how to manage her business more efficiently, and gain focus and confidence.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for learning about Coraima and funding her loan!
