A loan helped to purchase more charcoal, red oil, vita cubes, onion, pepper, and other food items to sell.

Fatumata's story

Fatumata, a vibrant 38-year-old single mother of 6 children, has overcome many obstacles in life. She never had the opportunity to attend school, but has become a successful businesswoman, running a thriving charcoal, red oil, vita cubes, onion, pepper, and other food items business she learned from her mother. For the past 14 years, she’s managed her sales seamlessly, transporting her supplies with ease using either a car or a kehkeh.

Fatumata works tirelessly 6 days a week, from Monday to Saturday, building strong relationships with her loyal customers. With her sights set on expanding her business, she has applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. This support will allow her to purchase more charcoal, red oil, vita cubes, onion, pepper, and other food items to sell, bringing her one step closer to realizing her dream of growth. Fatumata is deeply grateful for financial assistance from the funders, which will empower her to reach new heights in her business journey.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
