A loan helped to buy more coffee and beans to sell.

Shamimu's story

Shamimu is 36 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has three children who are all currently in school.

For the past four years, Shamimu has been working hard to manage her farming business in which she is farming in food groups. To help expand her business, Shamimu has requested a loan of 1,300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more coffee and beans to sell, and will help Shamimu to generate greater profits. Her production will increase and attract more revenue and she will manage to provide basic needs for her family like food and clothes for her children. Shamimu hopes that in the future she will be able to complete building her house.

She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
