Forty-five-year-old Mayra shares that she was widowed seventeen years ago, leaving her to raise three children who are now eighteen through twenty-two years of age. The oldest son has his own family, which includes two children. Mayra has an eighth-grade education could not continue due to her parents’ lack of financial resources.
She began raising chickens and turkeys twenty years ago. She sells from her home and in the local market. She sells delicious regional food from her house every morning, Monday through Saturday. One of her children helps her with the business. She is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy kitchen utensils, pots/pans, a blender, and ingredients for her recipes. Her goal is to formalize her business and open a restaurant!
Mayra is one of seven women in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Nenas” in the department/state of San Marcos. Some ladies raise animals or sell clothing, while others manage convenience stores and beauty salons. They appreciate the “Microcredit Plus” program, which includes loans, monthly educational training, and bi-monthly healthcare services. Recent topics for the training were wise business management practices, including investment information. Other topics are family, women, and health. Every two months, they have access to essential healthcare services, including exams, consults, and family planning.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for helping Mayra and her friends as they reach for success!
