A loan helped to purchase more raw food and vegetables.

Sarah's story

Sarah is 35 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has five children who are all currently in school.

For the past 12 years, Sarah has been working hard to manage her grocery store, which sells raw food. To help expand her business, Sarah has requested a loan of 1,300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase for more raw food and vegetables for resale. This will help Sarah to generate greater profits and manage to buy food for her family.

Sarah hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business more. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
