A loan helped to buy more fresh varieties of food for breakfast and lunch and a fridge for soft drinks.

Hasifah's story

Hasifah is 34 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has four children with three of them currently in school. For the past five years, Hasifah has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Hasifah has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food for breakfast and lunch and a fridge for soft drinks. This will help Hasifah to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food.

Hasifah hopes that in the future she will be able to own another different business. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
