A loan helped to purchase more cartons of fish to sell to increase her business.

Fatmata's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 51-year-old Fatmata from Lunsar Branch. She is a married business woman with five children between the ages of 15 and 30 years old. One is currently attending school. She started this business to care for her family.

Fatmata runs a retail business and sells fish to her customers around the communities. She has been in this business for the past 22 years ago. Fatmata says that her challenge is sometimes the fishes get spoil due to poor electricity supply.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more cartons of fish to increase her business. Fatmata says that the extra income from this loan will help to take care of her family greatly. In the future, she would like to expand to a large scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
