A loan helped to purchase more red oil, rice, vita, onions, and other food items to sell.

Hawa Tamba's story

This is a 38-year-old Hawa. She is single and is the proud mother of 4 children. Hawa never had the opportunity to attend school, but she is a resourceful and hardworking businesswoman. She sells red oil, rice, vita, onions, and other food items, a skill she learned by herself.

Hawa has been running her business for 10 years and has had no major challenges. She uses a car or kehkeh (a motorized tricycle) to transport her supplies to her sales site and works diligently from Monday to Saturday.

Now, Hawa is seeing a loan from BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. The loan will help her purchase more red oil, rice, vita, onions, and other food items to sell, allowing her to expand her business and increase her profits. Her dream for the future is to increase her business, where she can offer a wider range of products to her customers.

Hawa is grateful to BRAC and Kiva for their support and would like to extend her heartfelt thanks for making her dreams a little closer to reality.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
