A loan helped to invest in supplies and grow her hammock weaving business.

Amonrat's story

Amonrat describes herself as a simple farmer, having grown up without access to formal education. Although life has been challenging, she is filled with hope and determination as she learns to weave hammocks. Supported by her family, Amonrat is applying for her first loan, which she hopes will allow her to become fully self-sufficient in covering daily expenses. “And then, next year, I’ll be supporting them too,” she adds with pride.

Like many in her community, Amonrat has faced the harsh realities of slash-and-burn farming. This traditional practice is extremely labor-intensive and has become increasingly unsustainable, as it depends on limited land that becomes depleted over time. The environmental risks are high, too, with soil erosion and degraded air quality affecting both health and agriculture. These challenges have made it clear to Amonrat and others in her village that alternative sources of income are essential for a more secure future.

Encouraged by the success of friends, Amonrat has embraced hammock weaving as a safer, more reliable livelihood. Beyond covering her immediate needs, she sees weaving as a way to build a brighter future for her family.

This loan will help Amonrat purchase the materials needed to maintain a steady income through her weaving business, freeing her from the uncertainties of farming and setting her on a path toward financial stability.

This loan is special because:
