A loan helped to buy more raw food,.

Winnie's story

Winnie is 35 years old and lives in the town of Gayaza in the Gayaza region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children who are all currently in school.

For the past 5 years, Winnie has been working hard to manage her raw food selling, which sells matooke, cassava, and tomatoes. To help expand her business, Winnie has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more raw food, and will help Winnie to generate greater profits, and she will be able to educate her children.

Winnie hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Winnie, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
